Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) is an undergraduate degree course in computer applications. With the rapid growth of the IT industry in India, the demand for computer professionals is increasing day by day. This increasing growth of the IT industry has created a lot of opportunities for computer graduates. Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) is one of the popular courses among the students who want to make their career in the IT field. It comprises the subjects like database, networking, data structure, core programming languages like ‘C’, ‘java’ and ‘Android’. This course provides a lot of opportunities to the students who are interested in the computer field and want to work in the IT sector as programmers or software developers. The revised syllabus for BCA Programme provides a strong foundation to pursue Postgraduate programmes in computer science / applications. The knowledge acquired by the students may also equip them to meet the industrial need, and get placed.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Candidate must have passed class 12th or Senior Secondary Examination with at least 50% marks including English.

2. The 12th examination must be passed/Appearing with Mathematics/Computer Science as a compulsory subject.

3. Candidates who have passed CBSE class XII examination with the subjects English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics Practices are also eligible to apply.

Program Structure


The duration of BCA programme is three academic years with six semesters. Total number of courses for the whole BCA programme is 36. It is divided into four courses namely:

  • Core Courses : 28
  • Open courses : 1

After graduating, BCA freshers and experienced professionals can get a job in various fields such as Web Designing, Banking, Computer Programming and more. The demand for IT professionals is increasing not only in India but also abroad. After the completion of the course, the student can find a job in reputed IT companies like IBM, Oracle, Infosys, and Google. The student can work as a System Engineer, Junior Programmer, Web Developer or as a System Administrator. This field provides you ample opportunities to make your career not only in the private sector but also in the public sector. The government organizations like NIC, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy also recruit a large number of computer professionals for their IT department.


Further Study


MCA is most commonly preferred by the graduates after BCA. Those who have completed a BCA or bachelor’s degree in any discipline are eligible to join for the MCA courses. There are many options for the BCA graduates in higher studies.
